Narrated Ibn ‘Abbas : A woman from the tribe of Juhaina came to the Prophet (ﷺ) and said, , “My mother had vowed to perform Hajj but she died before performing it. May I perform Hajj on my mother’s behalf ?” The Prophet (ﷺ) replied, “Perform Hajj on her behalf. Had there been a debt on your mother, would you have paid it or not ? So, pay Allah’s debt as He has more right to be paid.”

Umrah and/or Hajj Badal

Performing Umrah and Hajj by proxy on behalf of disabled or deceased individuals is conducted through a group of esteemed Islamic scholars (‘Ulama) specializing in Juridical and Sharia sciences in Saudi Arabia.

How to perform

Umrah and/or Hajj Badal performed ?

To perform the pilgrimage « by proxy », you must indicate the name of the person in question as well as the name of his/her father.

For example : You want to perform Umrah by proxy for your deceased father. Your father’s name was Muhammad and your grandfather’s name was ibn Sulaiman. When you arrive at Makkah, the pilgrim performing Umrah for your father will recite the following prayer :

Here I am, O Allah, performing ‘Umrah on behalf of Muhammad, son of Sulaiman.

This means, « Allah, I answer your call by performing an Umrah for Muhammad, the son of Sulaiman »

If you do not know your grandfather’s name, your father’s name and surname will suffice, Inshallah.
